With every new year starting comes a feeling of freshness, energy, hope, and a myriad of possibilities. I’ve always liked this time of the year, because this is the moment when I sit, reflect on the past year(s), feel grateful for what I’ve learnt, and set my goals and intentions for the new year.
If you’re among those who make ambitious resolutions on January 1st, full of motivation and believing this year will be different, and feel desperate on January 31st because you’re back to your old habits just a few weeks later, you may want to try a more realistic and benevolent approach. A more profound and holistic way to approach new year resolutions is to consider your core values.
What is a core value and how to determine one’s own core values? A core value is a principle that is of central importance to one person. It is what drives you on an everyday basis, it is what gives meaning to your life. Core values also explain why you get along better with certain types of personality than with others, and why you don’t feel comfortable working in certain environments. Knowing your core values allows you to make better choices for yourself.
I am going to start a series of posts about core values on my blog next week. Stay tuned if you want to learn about core values and how to use them as the best source of motivation to reach your goals!
Happy New Year everyone!
